Inspired by George Washington Carver, After the Peanut was created in 2014. After the Peanut is a solution driven company, focusing on the power of knowledge and education in the face of adversity and challenge. The core foundation is to transform communities by increasing equity in K-12 STEAM education. This is accomplished by providing innovative, forward thinking, and real world experiences.
Dr. Natalie Coleman is the Founder and CEO of After the Peanut. She was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois and is passionate about all things STEM! She has over 15 years of experience as an educator and is also a combat veteran having served as a Military Police Officer in the Illinois Army National Guard. She holds an Education Doctorate from the University of Illinois. Some of her professional work includes developing trainings on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Cultural Competency, School Attendance and Next Generation Science Standards. She has been a National Geographic Educator of the Week, National Science Teacher Association Presenter, TED Innovative Educator, South by Southwest Education Mentor and Panelist and an Illinois Science Assessment Writer. Besides leading After the Peanut, Dr. Coleman is a Will County Board Member and Adjunct Education Professor at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.
